OPI has released their Pirates of the Carribbean: Stranger Tides collection to tie in with the movie to come out later this month. This is also supposed to be part of their Bright 2011 collection, I believe. I only got four of the shades, two of which I wasn’t impressed with. I didn’t get any of the pinks. I almost got the brighter pink, but I’m just not a pink girl, and chances are I wouldn’t wear it even if I did get it. I also got Silver Shatter, which I gave a sneak preview of earlier.
There are several pastel colors in this collection, very spring-like. I’m really don’t think they are very “pirate” however. But to each its own. All of these have a very dusty feel, and I love dusty colors.
I’m going to start with my least favorite first.. Skull and Crossbones. This looks wretched on me. I guess if you like these kind of oatmeal-type colors you might like it. I think it looks horrible on me, like dirt on the bottom of a sea floor or something. Yuck! It was a little thick, and streaky and first, but it evens nicely.
The movie’s namesake now, Stranger Tides. I thought I might change my undecided mind about this color, but I don’t really like this one either. It’s a very murky green, honestly it looks like decayed seaweed. Ew. The formula on this one was similar to Skull & Crossbones, streaky at first, but evens out after two to three coats.
On to the better colors! Mermaid’s Tears was one of the two colors I had my eye on when the collection was announced. This is a beautiful dusty jade green. The formula in this one was much better, two coats. Gorgeous color. Also, there is a very close dupe to Mermaid’s Tears in Orly’s Ancient Jade from Orly’s Spring Precious Collection. I don’t have Ancient Jade, but from what I’ve seen, it’s slightly darker and not as dusty, but extremely close.
Now on to my personal favorite of the collection, Planks A Lot. This is a gorgeous dusty medium purple. Right up my alley! I can’t get enough of these colors. I wore this all weekend and I just adore it, and I can’t wait to wear it again. Formula was great on this one, two coats.
Silver Shatter Skittles! I know the crackle/shatter is on serious overboard right now with pretty much every single nail polish company out there coming out with their own line of the trend. I don’t think I’d wear this look everyday, or at work. If you like this look, definitely a evening or weekend look. I got bored of Black Shatter really quickly, but I actually really like the Silver! It’s very different, and gives it something special in my opinion. Silver Shatter dries matter than the Black, due to the sparkly texture. Use one thick coat in one swipe for the best results.
Overall, this collection is a hit and miss. I don’t think pastels really scream “Pirates” to me, but I absolutely love the dusty feel to a couple of the colors. I think several of the colors are extremely drab, and just look like dirt or seaweed. But I’m more of a color polish girl – so if you are looking for more muted or neutral colors, you may like these.
