revlon: colorstay nail polishes

Revlon has introduced a brand new nail polish line, this time naming it for their “Colorstay” line. Most of the colors are typical everyday colors, but there are a few gems in the line. This line comes with a new bottle design and brush. The bottles are more rounder, and the brush resembles more of the same kind of brush as Sally Hansen’s Complete Salon Manicure kind of brush. It’s smaller than the Sally Hansen version, but it’s very similar to that kind of brush.

Blue Slate is well, a slate blue creme. It’s very dusty with a muted quality. It’s a gorgeous blue, and very shiny on the nail. This lasted about 4-5 days on me, which is pretty good for a nail polish. Most nail polishes last about 3 day on me, so it definitely lives up to the “Colorstay” name.

Spanish Moss is a very unique color – a very mossy green with a slight blue shimmer. The shimmer is more apparent in the bottle in the nail, but it is there, and gives this polish a more unique factor. I really like this color – it’s not a shade you see everyday, and the hidden shimmer is a very nice touch.

Stormy Night is a dark mushroom taupe with very slight purple undertones. To be honest, this shade isn’t really anything spectacular. It applied well, and is shiny. However, it’s really not that distinguishable from every other taupe out there. If you are looking for a purple-toned taupe, this is a nice one to get.

Overall, these are very nice. All shades were two coaters. They are a little shinier than the average Revlon’s, and I did get extended wear from the shade I did wear. The bottle shape is okay, but I do enjoy the original Revlon nail polish bottle shape better. The brush is okay, but again, I much prefer the original Revlon brush. If you have problems with the Sally Hansen style brush, you probably may not like this brush. It’s not as thick as the Sally Hansen one, but it is most definitely the same style, and can be tricky. These retail for $7.99, which is more expensive than Revlon’s main line, and borderline expensive for a drugstore brand.

You MUST use the top coat, then you will get a full ten days of wear. I am a “chip in one day” type of gal, and not only does this stuff last and last, it also dries in a flash, so you are doing yourself a disservice if you are not using their special topcoat. Also, this new formulation (I had been hoarding their long discontinued Colorstay bottles) has a base coat. I cannot vouch for that as I have not been able to get it. The original calls specifically for NO basecoat…just 2 coats of polish on the bare nail and then the special top coat.
